Our first trip to Victoria, British Columbia in 2008 we were fortunate to stay at the
magical Sooke Harbour Inn. Awakening just at sunrise to a chilly Canadian morning
I layered a blanket over my robe and crept onto the balcony. Laid out before me was a
glorious picture of water glistening, and sunlight dancing on the trees across The Wiffen Spit.
The sound and sight of Sea Otters and their babies frolicking at the water’s edge took my breath away.
The unabandoned joy that overcame me made me feel as if I were a child again.

A May visit to Santa Fe, one of my favorite spots on earth gave me a surprising gift.

Arriving at our destination, the tranquil Inn On The Alameda was covered with fragrant,

glorious Lilacs. Everywhere my husband and I wandered were gardens, adobe buildings

and walls all bedecked with the beautiful lavender, pink, cherry rose and white lilacs

Memories of my childhood in Michigan with our backyard filled with Lilacs

made my heart sing. I felt truly thankful of this bountiful gift and couldn’t wait

to paint them.
